How to Determine the Best Location in Nanaimo

Nanaimo is a long thin city, located between the Island Highway and the ocean.  A drive from the Southern tip to Woodgrove mall in the North will take approximately 20 minutes by highway, and longer through the center. For people from larger cities with high traffic issues, twenty minutes is a short commute, however with the slower Island lifestyle, we value our travel time minutes.

The popular Northern area along Hammond Bay Road has the most recently developed properties featuring newer to new homes, and more central, is Nanaimo Hospital and Downtown Shopping, while the more industrial area of town is located toward the South.  Also central is the BC Ferries terminal, wonderful marina facilities and closer to  the West, off Bowen Road is the newest industrial park development.

Downtown is home to the Casino, next to the Gabriola Island Ferry terminal and a delightful retail shopping area, the Conference Center, City Hall, and the lovely waterfront Maffeo Sutton Park.

Along Jinglepot Road on the other side of the highway, are small farms, acreages, some business, some newer residential developments and the popular Westwood Lake Park, featuring a lovely sand beach.  Also located in this area is the new SPCA Animal Shelter.

South Nanaimo enjoys proximity to the BC Ferries Duke Point Terminal, the charming community of Cedar, leading out to the popular Crow and Gate Pub and YellowPoint Lodge, or continue further South to enjoy Ladysmith and Chemanius.

Nanaimo Airport featuring Westjet and Air Canada is located about 10km South, in the community of Cassidy, and just past Cassidy is the South entrance into the Yellowpoint area.

Depending on your family needs, schools, hospital, shopping and neighborhoods should be explored when shopping for a new home.
